The winner of the “L” pin for four years of women’s athletics while a St. Lawrence student, Elsie Tupper played field hockey, basketball, tennis, intramural sports and baseball.
She earned the hockey blazer, normally awarded only to seniors, in her junior year and a gold basketball for three years of varsity basketball competition. She was the women’s singles champion in tennis as a senior.
An English teacher in public schools and a professor in the state university system for 38 years, Elsie is still active athletically in skiing and was a member of the SLU Ski Patrol for several years and still gives ski lessons. She also coached boys junior varsity basketball during her teaching career.
In addition to athletics, she also worked with the Hill News and News Bureau and was vice president of Le Cercle Jusserand, a language club while a St. Lawrence student.
