Representing the ideal in the concept of student-athlete, Dr. Phil McWhorter became the first St. Lawrence athlete to earn a NCAA Scholarship at the conclusion of a three-sport college career.

Now a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Chief of Staff-Elect of Greenwhich (CT) Hospital, Phil was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and tapped for Omicron Delta Kappa during his undergraduate career.

Captain of the 1968-69 basketball team and All ICAC in both basketball and baseball, he averaged 16 points per game and 10 rebounds per game as a senior in basketball and helped the baseball team record three straight conference titles.

Honored by the ECAC for his basketball exploits, he was also a standout back in football and played a part in the best baseball season in 31 years.
