Dave Hudson

    A two-sport All America, Dave Hudson was a four-year starter on the offensive line in football and an outstanding heavyweight on the wrestling team.

Hudson was co-captain of the football team as a senior and earned first-team All America honors at offensive tackle. He played on the 1976 NCAA semifinalist football team which won the first post-season game in program history, and on the 1978 NCAA team. He was a key blocker on offensive lines which produced three of the most prolific offensive attacks in program history during his career.

A three-time conference champion and a New York State champion in wrestling, he earned All America honors at heavyweight in his sophomore season and was the winner of the Most Improved Wrestler Award. He helped the Saints to a sixth place finish as a team with a fifth place finish in the unlimited class. He wrestled on two NCAA top-ten teams during his career and captained the team as a junior and senior.

Following graduation, he spent two years as a graduate assistant coach while earning his master’s degree and then began his coaching career at Phillips Exeter. He returned to St. Lawrence as head wrestling coach in 1991 and earned New York State Coach of the Year honors. He returned to the prep school ranks following his SLU career and coached at Governor Dummer Academy before returning to PhillipsExeter as athletic director. 

At the time of his induction, he was Phillips Exeter’s varsity wrestling coach. He earned New England Coach of the Year honors in prep wrestling and received the Brown Teaching Award from Phillips Exeter.
