A linebacker on defense and a fullback who was both an outstanding blocker and a punishing runner in football and handled some of the kicking duties, he was a three-year varsity starter in both football and baseball and played two years of basketball. An outstanding defensive catcher and a good hitter in baseball, he played a major role in a upset of Syracuse in the spring of 1941. He signed with the New York Yankees and played in the minor leagues before serving in World War II.

He was awarded several medals during service in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Following the war, he returned to St. Lawrence to earn his Master’s degree and then went on to teach and coach and was the football coach for several years at Gloversville High School. He also worked for General Electric as a contract administrator for 20 years, as job placement coordinator at Cortland-Auburn BOCES and Mohawk Valley Community College, and as an employment counselor for New York State.
