A first-team All America and first-team All ECAC selection as a senior, Brian McColgan helped the Saints to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances as a small, but clever defenseman who was the quarterback of the Saint power play.

He helped the 1987-88 team to the NCAA championship game and a 29-9-0 season and a ECAC Championship, and at the time of induction is one of just three defensemen in program history to score 100 or more career points. The leader among Saint defensemen in career goals with 31, he also had 69 assists in 113 career games, joining the team at mid-point in his freshman season after transferring from Army.

Nicknamed “The Shrub”, the 5-7 McColgan starred in a defensive corps which included five other blueliners 6-1 or taller. He helped the Saints to the ECAC championship game in 1986-87 and his teams went 69-35-0 in his three full seasons.

He spent 11 seasons playing professional hockey in Europe and won the Italian League title in 1999 with Merano. He also won a Gold Medal with the USA Spengler Cup team in Davos, Switzerland in 1988 and is a member of the Walpole High School Hockey Hall of Fame.

Now a teacher in his hometown of Walpole, MA, Brian and his wife Maura are the parents of three children.
