An All America punter as a senior, Bill Leckonby had an outstanding St. Lawrence career in both football and basketball.

He is credited with the longest punt in the nation in 1938 in all of college football and was also an outstanding two-way player for the football team. He went on to play professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers following his collegiate career.

He joined the coaching ranks at Lehigh University where he was named small college Coach of the Year in 1951 and compiled a career record of 85-53-5 before retiring as a coach to become Lehigh Athletic Director.
