One of the country's leading ground gainers in football and a member of the undefeated 1950 football team, Bernard Conners went on to an outstanding career as a writer and film producer after serving over eight years as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Conners was the leading rusher and scorer for a 1949 team which won six straight games to conclude that season, starting a record 18-game winning streak. He missed all but three games of the undefeated 1950 season due to an ankle injury, but returned for the Clarkson game and played a pivotal role in a win over Rochester which concluded the perfect season. Conners rushed for 849 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and completed four passes for an additional 90 yards to lead the 1949 team in total offense with 939 yards. He accounted for 54 points on nine touchdowns which also led the team. In addition to his football exploits at St. Lawrence, Conners was also a two-time Golden Gloves boxing champion.
The former publisher of The Paris Review, Conners is a best-selling author and owner of British American, a multi-faceted firm which includes real estate development, producing films and television shows, book publishing and the manufacture and sale of soft drinks. Among the movies of which Conners was executive producer was Nuremberg, which received two Emmys in 2002.
